Welcome to the Prairie Branch of the Royal Heraldry Society of Canada.
The Branch’s badge depicts a variant of the heraldic fur called vair, representing the fur-trade that originally lured Europeans to the Prairies and still continues today. The vair is in Sable and Or rather than the traditional Azure and Argent because these are the colours of the furs actually found in Canada, as well as the colours of our wheat fields and our rich soil. The black pieces also resemble grain elevators, which once proudly graced every community in the area.
To find out more about the RHSC, click the small shield in the top left corner of any page on this site.
The tiny shields like this that can be seen on these pages next to some people’s names indicate that they’re armigerous members of the Society; click to view that person’s arms from the RHSC’s online Roll.
In addition to the RHSC dues of $79 per annum ($29 for students), our branch fee is $20, which comes with a subscription to the Prairie Tressure and the privilege to attend our meetings. The RHSC has a convenient online membership application or renewal form; your payment can be made through Paypal or you can print out the application and mail it in.
